FREE::THE::ART::

For me art is and has always been an intense expression a culmination of one's deepest passions and belief finding liberation in the eyes of another.

Art is my world, my perception, interpretation, beliefs...with a frame around it.

There is something awesome that i feel when my brush dances around on a palate of vibrant cadmiums and quinachridones... It is the start of some liberty, it is the empowerment of some idea or expression that has been suppressed by silence and inactivity. The canvas my microphone and your eyes my audience, and oh how my fingers find joy in aiding this emancipation! It is the same when i sing, something as seemingly insignificant as air passes over my vocal chords, gets mixed with my soul...and out comes something that can move another human being. The same is true when i play my guitar, metal strings and hollowed out wood carry the reverberations of my spirit..... I think that it is a brilliant ability. To manipulate perception, to show people new ways of seeing, whether it be Dance, Photography,Music, Visual Arts... We live to express and we die to do otherwise.I live for expression. (hence the name of this blog) It is how life is made evident.

My inspirational gift to you this week is the Pre-Raphaelites. A Group of painters, poets,writers, thinkers... that got fed up with the stiffness that was being taught and displayed in the art of their times. They wanted to see passion and emotion in art again so they got together and made it happen. They were considered the first AVANT GARDE art movement.
Favorite Pre-Raphaelite Painter is Sir John Everett Millais

(He started as an art rebel and ended up President of The Royal Academy, he was one of the most highly paid artists of that time, and was accused by critics of "selling out")
They lived by Four Basic Principles:

1-To have genuine ideas to express;
2-To study Nature attentively, so as to know how to express them;
3-To sympathise with what is direct and serious and heartfelt in previous art, to the exclusion of what is conventional and self-parodying and learned by rote;
4-To produce thoroughly good pictures and statues.

The:Wisdom:of:God:

Wisdom is what my Pastor, and some others have been speaking about at church.
It was also a message of faith.
Faith is not just believing in something or someone, It's about the confidence you place on the character of another, confidence so strong that you can make decisions based on what you know/trust about that person. Faith is what you do based on said knowledge of God. Thus faith is a moving living thing....a lifestyle of trust in action.

There is one such test of faith and obedience in Luke chapter 5. Peter and others are on their boats at shore cleaning nets. Jesus gets on the boat of his disciple Simon Peter...he tells him to thrust out, or get away from the shore a bit.
Jesus then sits and proceeds to teach the people standing nearby.
Once he is done he tells Peter to Cast his nets out into the deep for a huge catch. Peter has an extremely human moment, where he explains to the all-knowing how he has toiled all night and worked so hard only to catch NOTHING.

Basically his actions said this:

"Why in the world would i throw my freshly cleaned net(s) back into waters? I was just there all last night fishing and we didn't catch anything then, why would we catch something now. Just cause you said so?"

I think that it is important to note the importance of an instruction from God. He never makes a statement arbitrarily and his words are truth. It is obvious that Peter believed neither of these two facts, else he would have acted (had faith in)on the words of Christ without second thought.
Peter says,"I'll give it a shot." What do you think happened? He cast out his net and there was such a catch that his net broke and he called to his fisherman fellows to help. there were so many fish that they filled two boats to the point of near sinking.

I don't think these words could've been brought to my attention at a better time.
I have had a series of pivotal life decisions come up all needing addressed at the same time. I've been wondering and wondering what to do. I have exhausted myself like peter.."toiling all night and catching nothing." One scriptures in the bible that I've been really holding to my heart is found in Psalm 18:32

"It is God that pulls me together with strength, he makes my way perfect."

The flooded track by William Ridley
I am learning daily that He is God, knowing all, possessing all, having the potential to do all, so i trust that his way is perfect and sure. He gives me the wisdom (out of his omniscience) to make decisions that i never thought i could make, things that make absolutely no sense to me or anyone else. But there is something about my life he knows, and that i do not know, so i allow him to lead me, and i follow by his grace.

IS WHAT I WILL NOT BE DOING THIS SATURDAY.
(don't worry i'm not sad)

i WAS ACTUALLY THE CHIC THAT USED TO BUY MYSELF CARNATIONS IN MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL AND LABEL THEM FROM "ANONYMOUS" SENDERS FOR ADDED DRAMA. (i know so young so shallow)

THE HOLIDAY DOES GET A LITTLE COMMERCIAL, LIFE SIZED COTTON FILLED ANIMALS, A DIZZYING SWIRL OF RED AND WHITE. HEARTS AND CARDS, LOVERS AND LOSERS ALL TRYING TO MAKE LOVE KNOWN OR MEET THE ANNUAL "BUY ME STUFF TO SHOW ME LOVE" QUOTA.

the History Channel's site has a cool video about the origins of this holiday

Interesting Facts::

-Ey who's the naked archer baby?
Cupid is the son of Venus, Roman god of love and beauty. Cupid often appears holding bow and arrows because he uses magical arrows to inspire feelings of love. (mmm..k)

-73% of people who buy flowers for Valentine's Day are men, while only 27 percent are women.

I don't keep cards but..
-About 1 billion Valentine's Day cards are exchanged each year. The largest seasonal card-sending occasion of the year, next to Christmas.

Flower-rama
-California produces 60 percent of American roses.But most sold on Valentine's Day in the US are imported. Approximately 110 million roses, the majority red, will be sold and delivered within a three-day time period.

-Heart on your sleeve?
In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who their valentines would be. They'd wear the names on their sleeves for a week. To wear your heart on your sleeve now means that it is easy for other people to know how you feel.

this will shoot your cupid out of the sky.

SOUL::VOMIT::

i CALL MOST of my poetry/journal entries that because they are the result of intense emotional overload/hidden expression. They usually "violently" escape my body in strong scribbling strokes of ink on paper.

I was inspired to repost this poem (for a very good friend of mine, who i shall here and in the future refer to as CAPTAIN) i wrote this at a time when i was feeling verbally vulnerable, quasi-perfect, and accepting all of that with an "air of optimism". (i don't know who ever really feels perfect tho)
here goes

in love

there is torture

and in sound there is conversation, emission, reverberration.

in the space between my impulse and the key, there is an oppertunity to be truthful. so i adjust, and begin.when sitting at the piano
i feel my soul unravel
and although i don't play well
imperfected keystrokes
bespoke the real me when i'm with you.(the sound)

My sounds are loud wheels of thought agitating runway gravel.my sentiments have gotten away. taken to flight.

my heart protests of love un-had, and joy undone.

in a moment

melancholy becomes something beautiful. with deliveries all wrong
but the meanings all right.

leaves are falling, birds are flying below,the trash even dances in the wind. somehow it's a good day.

every thud of these wooden keys

speaks his line, lives his fate, sings my soul.

released and half-way complete.

the trees leaves tell me garments burning golden red in the sun.
my voice hushed to listen to Day cry with a million eyes and be blanketed by the darkness of Light's fleeting...and bombarded by the shouts of dreams speaking.

M.I.A speaks about SRI:LANKAN::Genocide

It honestly doesn't matter Whether you love or hate her kooked out fashion, or tribal banga beats, M.i.A. definitely has a point of view and is using her platform as a rapper to spread the message. She has been nominated for a Grammy, an Academy award, and has a little one on the way! Despite it all happening so fast. She made the Grammy's and ripped "Swagga Like Us" with Jay-Z, Kanye West, T.I., and Lil Wayne, for tons of fans.

Swagga Like Us - Jay-Z
Like Bjork did at the Academy's in 2001....She gave self-proclaimed "stylists/fashionistas" something to talk about.

In this video (part 2) interview by Tavis Smiley Maya talks about the iimportance of influence, the power of music and the media.
