THE::GREAT::DIVIDE::

This is something I've been meaning to write about for some time. Hopefully my transparency will spark a lil hope, healing, or just make those who can identify with my situation, feel like they're not alone.

Here goes....

Something strange has been brewing all my life, things i could feel but couldn't put my finger on. I've always desired the ideal, and who doesn't?...the white picket fence and parents that come to your crappy recitals and lousy games...knowing you suck, but for some reason, all of that is overshadowed because you are their child.

Childhood is blissfully radiant. Long summer nights collecting fireflies in jars, playing til the street lights come on, and mom's peanut butter & jelly sandwiches are like fillet Mignon! I think certain happenings have neon flashers that your brain automatically stores for points of reference.

Certain events in particular flash the brightest in my mind.
.
1.Me/Sis Being threatened with punishment for repeatedly disobeying my dad and jumping on the bed, trying to touch the ceiling...that ended in an ice cream cake birthday party with leftover Halloween stuff as decor.

2. When my brother was born. I remember thinking it odd that he was here, taking up space and attention, and HAPPY that our mom let us finish her strawberry sundae from Dairy Queen.

3.Paper food stamps that looked like play money to me, trading them to kids who didn't know the difference between the stamps and foreign money, for cash. to buy NON-food items.

4. The day me and my sister dodged a oncoming glass object shattering against the back wall, aimed at my father, who was being threatened at knife point by my mother. I remember feeling afraid.

5. Learning the distinct smell of alcohol, and that brown bags with bottles were usually the source. Quick Rides to the corner store with my drunken grandfather. (affectionately known as POPS) Being able to weasel all sorts of bills outta him, due to his soggy alcoholic disposition.

GREAT-GREAT GRANDMA

GREAT GRANDMA-style queen hero. Winstons & turbans were her signature.

GRANDMA- i used to drink coffee with her at a young age and eat raw tomatoes. She called me "Miss fine brown frame"

MOTHER- (my mom is hot, this pic does her an injustice.)

6.Sleeping in my maternal grandmother's (God rest her soul)condemned house for years, when we got kicked out of one we couldn't pay for. Plastic covered windows, having to get water from neighbors in a cooler because we had no running water, continually battling wasp nests in and around the house, snakes, mice, and winters without heat, so we had to live with my grandma for a while. (that's another story)
(I remember being indoors and looking up through a big hole in the ceiling at the stars.)

7.The day my father came to church (received Christ) instead of watching Georgetown play, or washing his black Honda. (circa 1980 something)

8. Being attacked by my pastors son,(on several occasions) who was trying to get in my pants. (...and no he's not a doctor) I also remember biting him, then Slapping him so hard he never touched me again.

9.I remember always wanting to be a doctor and an artist. My Uncle even made a video, outside my grandads trailer. when i was lil.i felt like a famous child.

.. I remember my mom's first attempt at leaving my dad. I remember the dark glow of the street light against the sky, My dad's ash green Chevy pickup, and my mom foot to pavement about 15ft away from leaving our house, us, and my dad, before i cried and called out after her,

"MOM DON"T LEAVE!"

to which she turned and walked somberly back. I don't know what she was thinking, i don't remember caring, i just remember having my mom back to hug me and make me more sandwiches.

Fast FORWARD::::::::Years Passed like speeding cars and eternity. It seemed as if lots of changes besides puberty took place. We moved to Ohio, joined the loved & hated World Harvest Church, new school, surroundings, people... and some things that appeared to change didn't just changed face.

After living in a hotel for months upon our initial arrival, losing our beloved doggie Muffy, and apartment hopping for several years, We finally got a house and had settled into Ohio's Higher standard of living and cold winters.

My parents continued to silently grow apart. I think there may have been a bit of effort from both parties to work on their relationship, but for the most part they were speaking two different languages, living in two different worlds. My mom, the God/church absorbed glue of the family. i think she did what she thought was best, and tried to fill a role she thought my dad should have. She spent the last few years before she left living in the guest bedroom away from my dad and sometimes us. My dad has always been a media enthusiast. Photography, film, television cameras, etc. So most of his non-working time was spent volunteering in corresponding areas of the church.
To me he never seemed concerned with the affairs of my life, i'm not sure if this is something that stemmed from his upbringing and lack of attention from his father? but that's the way we were treated...or NOT treated. as invisibles. My mom always seemed to be so focused on the SUPERNATURAL that she couldn't see things i felt were everyday life concerns, there was a book, teaching tape, lecture, always some other media to put in the place of what i felt i needed...just a listening ear and a faulty human like me.

So maybe this growing apathy for family and absorption with all else is what caused my mom to feel the way she did. Or maybe my dad always felt inadequate because of my mother's nagging and fault finding. (trust me if there was a fault she would find it)
I remember always thinking that our family had the form on lock...we looked like a good deal, but the foundation was far from stable.

FAST FORWARD::::::My mom, had gone to Mississippi to attend a funeral, and hadn't returned. I remember my dad went and bought a bowl and a towel to wash her feet. Days passed still no mom. Phone calls ended with recorded messages and we on the other end wondering what was going on. Those days rolled over into weeks, and morphed into months. The Roses that stood quietly in a Vase on my mothers dresser, had browned. My mother had finally done what she quietly conceived....She had left my father.

I think she was trying to wait until she felt we would be OK without her. But when is that time? I love and accept my downfalls as well as those of my family. I have no high heroes to worship. But this point of view has come from many tears, the lows of alcoholism, much soul searching, prayer, much contemplation, and reconsideration from all sides. I have watched my dad cry oceans of tears, and I've felt the anguish in my mother's phone calls. There is no doubt that divorce hurts, and it doesn't matter how old you are.I HAVE FOUND MY SOLACE, MY PLACE OF ABSOLUTE PEACE IN JESUS. SAY WHAT YOU WILL, BUT THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE

Self::Portrait.

I enjoy many things in life, one of them is being in control of a camera. I also enjoy being happy, that statement may seem a bit silly but it's true. The countenance can reveal a great deal or nothing at all about the inner self. there is a good deal of self editing that happens before ppl see what i am allowing them to. This is sure to be linked to my preference at being private with my innermost self.

The real man/woman has nothing to do with skin and flesh, clothings and jewelry...it's core beliefs are only slightly reflected by these things. The physical body/worldtestifies to the reality of the invisible.(tangible as a means to intangible)

I do.. however hate lipstick,( i own it only to decorate on others) i feel that it is distracting and messy.(on me) but i had fun with it for these pics. at any rate... here are some pics from my recent self shoot.

.Slumdog Millionaire.

So let's just say that this movie is worth seeing in every way. It's a really intricate love/rags to riches story, set in India, and backed with so many virtues and philosophies it'll make your enlightened head spin. I hate giving away plot, and major points of movies...so I won't. This is a must see movie if you liked 'GoodFellas', 'The Notebook' , or...I don't know, 'The Pursuit of Happyness'. There's not a boring moment throughout the movie, and if you don't see it then you'll hate yourself for one million reincarnated lives.

(If you haven't seen 'Slumdog Millionaire' , go see it. If you have, then you'll note that this is just a rip off of that Disney's Aladdin instead of the main dude)

.STREETRAT MILLIONAIRE.

"So Aladdin, are you ready to play the game?"

"Yes, for 70 virgins and a Magnavox, I'm ready."

"No Aladdin, you're playing for one million dollars."

"Oh."

"Technically, those things could be purchased with a million dollars...but we'll just write the check. So yea, let's play."

"Alright, let's do it."

"Okay, first question. What kind of sea travelling spokesperson is on the cover of a bottle of Captain Morgan's? Is it A, a navy man? B, a Forrest ranger. C, a part-time bartender/coastguard worker, or D...a pirate?"

"Well, I remember this one time..."

(random flashback, interrupting game show)

"I was walking with Abu one day, just trying to find some garbage to eat. We had just been brutally beaten by the palace guards, after an unsuccessful attempt at stealing pears, when we saw a bottle glistening in the excruciating sunlight.

"Okay, so this is going somewhere."

"We ran to it before any one else could get it, or stab us and then get it. I picked it up, clasped it to my chest, and read it's contents slowly. It said Captain Morgan's on the label, and there was a man with a moustache and a really nice coat. I couldn't figure out who he was, or where the bottle came from, so we decided to ask my good friend Azul. Of course Azul stole and drank it all for himself, but he told us later that the guy on the bottle was a pirate. So D is my final answer."
"Okay computer, for the first amount of money (I have no idea how their currency works) on the way to a million dollars, is it D?

(long pause...)

"This isn't really that important of a question, I'm sure you could just tell me. I don't think the first question usually warrants that dramatic of a pause, do you?"

"Just let me run my show, streetrat!"

"Hey man, what's all that about? Why are you coming at me like that, what did I do to you? You don't just go throwing racial and demographic slurs at people like that."

"Why not, that's the name of this show."

"What?"

"Yea, it's called 'Who Wants To Be a Streetrat Millionaire'. Oddly enough there's no question mark there."

"Wow, I never knew that. Okay."

"By the way, the answer was right...yea, you got it right so we'll move on."

"Sweet."

The::Kids::who::didn't::make::it:: Societal Irresponsibility Pt 2

If you're just tuning in...this is blog is the second in a serious of about 5 related blogs. I wanted to tell you how i feel about ABORTION. yea that's right the big "A" I already know some will be offended and disagree with my views, but i'm prepared for the flack, but i am confident that my views do have a bit of credibility due to the sheer results of actions i will discuss.

I HOPE TO FURTHER DRIVE HOME THE FACT THAT WE LIVE LIFE AS IF OUR DECISIONS DON'T HAVE CONSEQUENCES THAT AFFECT OTHERS AND OURSELVES. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO LIVE WITH LOVE & THE HIGHEST REGARD FOR THE TOTAL (spirit::soul::body) WELL BEING OF OUR FELLOW MAN/WOMAN.

I thought i'd start off showing you a couple of gruesome pictures of DIME SIZE babies All bloodied and in the early stages of development cut short. My mind has changed (i'll show you later). I think we've seen it so much, that it has become like watching Gladiator or something, YOU know ONE more barbarian that has been slaughtered for the good of Rome. I have decided to talk about Relationships and SEX. (like the TLC song you know?!) Cause you can't really kill a child unless you're pregnant. And we all know you can't get pregnant withOUT some SEX. (unless you're the virgin Mary, in which case this doesn't apply)

In order to maintain any truly successful HUMAN RELATIONSHIP, i believe there must be a genuine altruism that is reciprocated between parties involved. ALTRUISM is defined as: a selfless concern for the welfare of others. I think that definition slighty waters down the passion that this word in itself stands for, but you get the point. Simply put SELFLESSNESSS is the purest form of love and the highest form of living towards our fellow man/neighbor.

Who is my neighbor?

On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?". "What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?" asked Jesus. The man answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" "You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live." But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

glad you asked.

I once Read a book called "Strength to Love" by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. That contained a sermon about the GOOD SAMARITAN. Jesus used this parable to answer the question of relationships. I'm sure you've heard it before so i'll be brief.

Jewish man-robbed, stripped naked, and badly beaten, left to die.
(The road to Jehricho was a very steep descending road around a mountainside, because Jericho is located 258 meters (846 ft) below sea level in an oasis in Wadi Qelt in the Jordan Valley. Travelling there in ancient times was very dangerous especially travelling alone.)
Jewish Victim of attack- was passed up by 2 of his fellow men, A Priest, and a Levite (it even states that one crossed to the other side to avoid this beaten man. hmmm...maybe they were too busy to help with church planning meetings, or choir practice)
Samaritan Man- in route, finds this man left for dead, takes him bandages and anoints his wounds, places the man on his own traveling animal
(maybe a donkey), while he walks and gets the guy to an inn. Pays for the Jewish man's stay and tells the manager that he'll pay for any extra exspense the man might incur.
(Mind you, the JEWS and the SAMARITANS absolutely hate each other, kinda like modern day JEWS and ARABS or relations between whites and blacks in the 60's. ) (in their day, probably a refuge of all sorts for travelers, i'm sure there was no ER)

Which of the three travelers was a neighbor? the one that not only helped save a dying man but went out of his way to help another, with no regard to himself.

With all this said lets compare people who go OUT of their way to see the good of their fellow man/woman above themselves.
WE ALL ARE RELATIONAL PEOPLE, WE WOULDN'T THRIVE WITHOUT THEM. AND I WOULD MUCH RATHER HAVE A GOOD LASTING ONE ABOVE AN ABUSIVE, PERVERTED, UNFULFILLING ONE. SO.....

FIRST: I'M CONFUSED AS TO WHY SOME PEOPLE ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BE LURED, COERCED, TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF, OR EVEN WILLINGLY CONSENT TO RELATIONSHIPS, THAT ARE OBVIOUSLY FATED FOR FAILURE AND BASED ON SOMEONE WHO IS ONLY CONCERNED WITH TAKING EVERYTHING THEY CAN.
(physically and emotionally. i understand that we make bad choices, misjudge etc. ( i know all too well) but there has to come a point where you really find out who you are and how much you're worth. and until you do the cycle will continue.)

SECOND: Whether the toughest of the toughest person will truthfully admit, the more you avail yourself to people in relationships that are negative, the more you damage your heart...i mean emotionally, mentally. you begin to settle for and act like what you are willing to accept. Where are the standards? What happened to people havin/displaying the type of character, valour, and nobility, that demand respect from others and set an example others wish to follow?
(if wanting to be truly loved and setting positive examples makes me narrow minded, then that's what i am.)

THIRD:THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES CREEPIN ABOUT TO BE CARELESSLY OFFERING YOURSELF TO ANY MARY, JANE, SUE, KELLY, TOM, DICK, OR HARRY. I MEAN REALLY IF YOU ARE HAVING TO USE CONDOMS AND CONTRACEPTIVES AND YOUR INTIMATE EXPERIENCE IS A FEARFUL ONE...WHAT'S THE POINT? (constantly thinking about your condom bustin, or waking up spending the nxt couple weeks trying to figure out if you are unexpectedly pregnant, or if the guy/girl that stopped calling you is now with someone else.) ESPECIALLY FOR ONE NIGHT STANDS, ON OFF RELATIONSHIPS, AND GIVING YOURSELF TO A PERSON THAT DOESN'T LOVE YOU ENOUGH TO WAIT AND BE WITH YOU EXCLUSIVELY.
(It's strange how we work so hard, by using gadgets, cremes, gizmos, surgeries, to function against nature.)

(63% of all sexually transmitted disease (STD) cases occur among people less than 25 years of age.)

(Condoms provide virtually no protection against an STD called the human papillloma virus (HPV). HPV is the most common medical problem seen by gynecologists and causes almost all cervical cancer in the U.S, they do not prevent HIV)
(1.3 million new gonorrhea cases occur annually.)(you know the one that treat you like an unsatisfying side dish at TGI Fridays.)(24 million new cases of human papilloma virus (HPV) occur annually, including a high percentage among teens)The Pill fails 6.2% of the time.
The condom fails 14.2% of the time.
The diaphragm fails 15.6% of the time.
Spermicide fails 26.3% of the time.)

SAFE SEX?- WHEN DID it become DANGEROUS? THINGS ARE DANGEROUS WHEN THEY ARE MIS-HANDLED AND IMPROPERLY USED OR ABUSED. THIS HAPPENS WHEN GETTING ONE'S NEEDS MET ABOVE ALL ELSE IS THE FOCUS OF OUR RELATIONSHIPS.

PART 3 COMING SOON...

KARMA?

Seems like the kids are into a new path...I can dig it...can you?

Okay. Eastern (Asian) religion, or philosophy has always been intriguing to Americans. David Caradine made a living off of it (playing a monk/warrior on television's "Kung Fu"), and he wasn't even Asian. A moment of silence for the television industry...(1933-1972). Taoism and Confucianism are increasing in interest, but not as rapidly as Buddhism. The kids, especially, are eating it up like hotcakes. Maybe it's from a bombardment of music and media, maybe it's the influence of random philosophy professors around the country, or maybe it's karma from forcing our ideology on them for hundreds of years (low-blow?). It could be just a fad, but peaceful resistance to temptation and negativity makes perfect sense to me.

Gravity+Hunger.

is having an effect on my eyelids. down...down.....Down...
The body needs rest. so with that i go to sleep.

My Inspiration for today has been a scripture from Matthew 5. It is the verse that says, "Blessed are they that Hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled."

Blessed are they who desperately crave to know and have what is good...they won't be disspointed.. i like that.
I shall have sweet dreams of glorious days to come....

Pray for the people of Haiti. and give.

NOT the first BLACK man in office::Still on the farm?

If the South is the Heart of the US then, Mississippi would be the Left Atrium. It also happens to be where i spent my developing years. Walking barefoot in the creek, sticking my fingers in muddy holes pullin out crawdads, Turning eight shades of Ebony in the sticky July heat, where lard is one of the food groups and obesity is a side-dish, yea...that's where i grew up. It may even be the double-dirty south. Anyway point is.. I know what racism is in the popular sense of the word. Bertha said, 'Chile, it's just Somebody not liking Somebody else because they a different color." Well that's one way to look at it... but the true definition is this:

RACISM: is the belief that there actually exist different species of humans with inherent genetic defects that make them lower than the dominate homo sapien, subhumans if you will. (and the Caucasoid man of predominate European origin, man is at the top of the food chain in this case.)Scientific studies have shown that this once believed theory is false. And I believe this once supported theory only existed to justify cruel behavior and to perpetuate the control of one human over another.

With all that said, Kudos to Obama, for being gutsy, ambitious, beating the odds. (who have been beaten up on for a long time..ok whatever) I'm sure he has a lot to live up in the coming years ahead, and i wish him godspeed.

OBAMA WITH HIS MOTHER

OBAMA WITH HIS FATHER
But ppl, let's get it straight. He is the first man of color, minority, dual ethnic background, ANY of those are more accurate terms. Maybe the celebration and almost OBAMA WORSHIP by most in the black race, stems from their own feelings of inferiority as ppl with an intensely oppresive history. They finally feel like they can be "on top".

This takes me back to why i mentioned where i was from. I grew up with the stigma that "light-skinned" girls/guys were better than dark skinned people No one ever just put it in plain ol English, but you felt it. They were more physically appealing, had "good" hair, probably jumped higher ..and ran faster too. This dogma got imbedded in people of African origin somewhere between the boat and the cotton fields.

In some Mormon doctrine having "BLACK" skin was a mark by God showing that we were cursed descendants of Cain. And that black people can do the same things in the modern mormon church as whites EXCEPT hold priesthood, and they seem to have no explanation as to why. hmmm (read the Folklore section) Mormon Teaching

(THis is so Random too but so good..apparently Jesus and Satan are brothers, and God is kickin it on his own personal planet with his numerous wives making spirit babies..To understand why this announcement was of such extreme importance, it is necessary to go back in time to what Mormons refer to as the pre-existence. According to LDS theology, the God of Mormonism, Elohim, resides near a star called Kolob where he lives with his many heavenly wives. Together they are producing millions upon millions of spirit children.

Mormon leaders have taught that aeons ago the time came to present a salvation plan for those of God's children who would eventually advance to a mortal state. Two of Elohim's sons, Jehovah (the pre-incarnate Christ) and Lucifer, presented their respective salvation plans for mortal man. According to LDS President Harold B. Lee:

"…Lucifer, a son of God in the spirit world before the earth was formed, proposed a plan under which mortals would be saved without glory and honor of God. The plan of our Savior, Jehovah, was to give to each the right to choose for himself the course he would travel in earth life and all was to be done to the honor and glory of God our Heavenly Father" (Stand Ye In Holy Places, p.219).

When Lucifer's plan was rejected, he rebelled against his brother and father and persuaded a third of God's spirit children to join him. Led by Michael the archangel, the remaining spirit children of God would join in what is known as the war in heaven. Lucifer would lose and become known as Satan; his followers then became demons. Both would be cast out of heaven.
)

Maybe this is just physcologically related to light and dark perceptions period. (i.e. Light good, revealing, etc. Black- Mysterious, dark, evil , lack of vision etc.)Even reading accounts about slavery and the old antebellum south, It always seemed that the less melanin, the closer your skin was to white the better person you were. And so you see this enacted in the way we act today. Look at your rap videos talk to somebody on the corner and see what they say. It's apparent.

My Take on Everything, is that we need to deal with deep underlying causes of insecurity and hatredTake our hearts to Each other in forgiveness and to God for his forgiveness.Embrace each other as God's creation and .
Love unconditionally.
